But don’t expect to know exactly who these characters are by looking at how they’re drawn. Star Light, Star Bright and Seasons of Adventure each include eight segments (four episodes), all of them featuring Peep the yellow chicken, Chirp the red robin and Quack the purple duck. Peep and the Big Wide World is now available on DVD thanks to a couple of compilation sets from PBS. (Hopefully, they will put down the DVDs and head out into the sun.) On the other hand, children will absolutely fall in love with Peep and his friends. One’s mind will stray, almost immediately. The issue with the TV series is that the animation style is so basic and the characters so goofy that there’s just not enough to hold a person’s interest for too long. In fact, much of the humor and storytelling is quite imaginative. It’s not that the PBS program is necessarily bad.
